Press Release from the Autosport Exhibition

New ‘Motorsport Recruitment’ brand to be launched.

(Stand Nos. E515 (Jan 10/11) and 6400 (Jan 12/13)

It is hard to believe that the Motorsport Academy’s first public appearance was at the 2007 Autosport International Show, a mere 12 months ago. Since then, its dedicated team has worked flat out to:

  • Create an integrated suite of products and services for motorsport industry employers, employees, educators and students
  • Forge invaluable relationships with and between employers and academia
  • Help Numerous individuals to find jobs and employers to find staff
  • Assist countless students to find the right FE or HE course, and careers within the industry
Now firmly established as a major multi-faceted resource, the Motorsport Academy returns to Europe’s premier motorsport show with a number of clearly defined messages and objectives.

TARGETING THE EMPLOYERS.

During the show’s trade days of Jan 10/11, the Academy will operate from stand E515 in the show’s engineering section. Its chief aim will be to promote its HR and Recruitment Services to employers exhibiting at or visiting the exhibition.

‘Motorsport Recruitment’ – a new brand

To help distinguish between its rapidly expanding HR and Recruitment activity and its Education and Learning operations, the Academy will, from hereon, carry out all HR and Recruitment work under the name of ‘Motorsport Recruitment’. The services being promoted at the show under this new brand include:

  • Jobs Board
  • Managed Recruitment Service
  • Outplacement
  • Free Employment Law Compliance Checks
  • On-site and Outsourced HR Services
  • Employment Law Support and 24/7 Legal Telephone Helpline

MEETING THE PUBLIC.

Come the public days of the show, the Motorsport Academy will take centre stage on stand 6400, Hall 6 – the Autosport International Business Lounge/MIA Members’ Lounge on the trade days.

The Le Mans winning Audio R10 will remain the key static exhibit on the stand, but be supplemented by a variety of Academy activity, including:
  • Live composite lay up demonstrations conducted by the staff and students of Oxford & Cherwell Valley College
  • Live race car setup carried out by Solutions Racing on a Renault Clio Cup car
  • A Ford Focus WRC simulator run by Jemlar, all profits from which will go to the Motorsport Foundation

Focus – gauging interest in the creation of full apprenticeships.

The Academy will be making the most of its access to the visitors on the two public days to gauge the level of interest in full apprenticeships as a solution to the motorsport industry’s ongoing skill shortage at apprenticeship/vocational level.

The clear message to industry is, ‘if you don’t support the research/work of the Academy at this stage, your problems are only likely to escalate!’

Utilising SMS technology.

Rather than Academy staff laboriously filling out forms on the stand to register people’s interest, they will supply all interested parties with an A6 card inviting them to text a word from their mobile to a particular number. The word will identify whether they are looking for a job, training or HR support. The messages will then be followed up by the Academy team after the show.

Said the Academy’s Alex Hope, “We are excited by this simple innovation which, via a simple text message, individuals may be able to get their career off the ground or employers achieve instant resolution for an HR issue.”

MOTORSPORT ACADEMY TO SUPPORT MDUK BRIEFINGS.

The third part of the Academy’s involvement in the show will be its support of the MDUK briefings that are scheduled for Thursday January 10 and Friday January 11, between 11.30 and 13.00 hours each day. MDUK is the funding partner of the Academy.

The first briefing will be given by John Surtees MBE and cover education, training and participation. The second will be made by the former Minister for Defence Procurement and bio-fuel powered racer Lord Drayson and concerns innovation and energy efficiency in motorsport.

The Academy’s Chief Executive (Eric Newell) and Education Manager (Alex Hope) will both be on hand to advise VIP attendees and conduct tours of the show.
